Iran, Minneapolis and threats to democracy
How chilling to read the Daily Herald’s recent front-page story about protests in Iran and the horrific killing of civilians who are marching in protest of the abusive government. On Page 2, I read the story of the continued occupation of Minneapolis by ICE agents after the horrific, killing of an, unarmed protesting civilian who, seemingly, was trying to follow instructions to move her car.
Add in the story of our deranged president encouraging the protesters in Iran to continue their protest as his administration continues an unwanted occupation in Minnesota. It is like a badly written dystopian novel to read the news … or a historic novel about pre-WWII and the rise of Hitler. Vilify minorities, the poor or disabled, the press and anyone who isn’t in lockstep with this dictator wannabe.
I can only hope that our legislators and judges can grow a spine before we lose this democracy that so many people have fought so hard to keep.
