ICE tactics are not what voters envisioned

Mr. Phillips’ recent letter argued that Renee Good’s behavior led to her execution. The logic leaves me speechless. She felt a duty to warn when her Samoli neighbors were being invaded by ICE by parking on a side street and honking her horn. She tried to leave when agents commanded it while stating, “I’m not mad at you” as she tried to steer around an agent moving toward the front of her car. He chose to end her life with three bullets and then demonstrated his rage by cursing her.

Renee’s decision to help her neighbors likely was shaped by the constant harping from the president that her neighbors were crime ridden and the worst of the worst. The data does not support these claims.

Any citizen has a right to peacefully protest and cannot be jerked out of his car and thrown to the ground. We see it in the videos when a person lacks proof of citizenship.

Adding to our fears is the behavior of the poorly trained and masked agents who use tear gas and concussion grenades on demonstrators and passersby. This is not what voters envisioned when the deportation of 13 million people was proposed.
