Highwood man charged with possessing child sex abuse materials

A Highwood man is facing seven felony counts of possessing child sex abuse materials after authorities seized electronics Thursday from his home.

Elias Carballido, 18, of the 200 block of Sheridan Avenue was being held Friday morning pending an initial court hearing.

According to news release from the Lake County Sheriff's office, detectives began an investigation following a tip from a social media provider showing a device in Lake County was sharing suspected child sex abuse materials.

Using a search warrant and the sheriff's office electronics detection dog Enzo, authorities seized devices belonging to Carballido that contained dozens of explicit images of children under the age of 13, according to release.

Carballido is charged with possession of child pornography but additional charges are possible, according to the sheriff's office.
