Batavia Special-Education Parent Network hosts annual Resource Fair Feb. 19

The Batavia Special-Education Parent Network is hosting its annual Parent Resource Fair on Thursday, Feb. 19. It will be 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Batavia High School, 1201 Main St.

The community is invited to learn about resources available for families of students from early childhood through age 22.

In keeping with its mission to provide opportunities that enrich the educational experience and quality of life for students and families, Batavia Special-Education Parent Network has partnered with more than 40 community organizations this year. The Resource Fair will showcase recreational opportunities, therapy providers, consultants, transition planning, and advocacy/support specialists.

Admission is free and open to anyone interested in improving and supporting special education in our community.

The Batavia Special-Education Parent Network includes parents, special education teachers, school therapists, and administrators within Batavia Unit District 101, which serves children from Batavia, Geneva, and Aurora. The group welcomes anyone interested in improving and supporting special education.

The primary goal is to build a support network for parents of students with special education needs. Any parent can benefit from exchanging ideas and information with other parents and school personnel. Parents of special-needs children also have to manage Individualized Education Plans, 504 Plans, therapies, and medical procedures that complicate the already difficult job of parenting. As parents of children with special needs and as school personnel who work with and care for children with special needs, the network can help by sharing information and providing mentoring to parents who need it.
