Aurora firefighters rescue woman from apartment fire

Aurora firefighters rescued a woman trapped in a second-floor unit during an apartment fire Thursday evening.

The fire was reported just before 5 p.m. at the two-story, eight-unit apartment building on the 300 block of Coventry Court.

Firefighters used a ladder to reach the woman and carried her to safety. She was transported to a hospital for observation. Her condition is unknown.

A dog was also located inside the building and returned to its owners.

Firefighters encountered a frozen hydrant, which hampered efforts to extinguish the blaze.

In the end, only the unit of origin sustained fire damage, though a neighboring unit sustained water damage. Both were rendered temporarily uninhabitable, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
