Claims of senior wealth, aid are offensive

I am a senior and am offended by many newspapers/magazine articles that state in a negative tone that “today’s seniors are the wealthiest we ever had” and “retired millionaires have become the greatest recipients of government aid.” Much of the time, these articles refer to the poor “younger than 35” generation who are struggling financially.

We seniors (aka “the baby boomers”) of today are enjoying life because we worked hard and saved money. We didn’t buy everything we wanted and waited until we had enough money to pay for it with cash (or small loan). We didn’t have the best of everything “immediately.” We didn’t buy a ready-made cup of coffee; we made our coffee at home. We took our brown bag lunches to work and shared a ride to work if we didn’t have a car. We paid off our loans. We made it work and now we reap the benefits because of how we lived our lives.

The Gen Zs and Millennials can learn so much from the Baby Boomers generation only if they would slow down and take the time to listen.
