Man charged in Christmas Eve stabbing at hotel in Burr Ridge
A Missouri man is accused of stabbing another man in a Burr Ridge hotel on Christmas Eve, authorities said Saturday.
Uberclein Vazquez Villareal, 40, has been charged with one felony count of armed violence and two felony counts of aggravated battery.
A DuPage County judge has granted prosecutors’ motion to detain him pretrial.
At about 2:25 a.m., Burr Ridge police responded to a call at an Extended Stay America for a report of a disturbance. Officers made contact with a person hiding behind the hotel front desk who indicated that someone had been stabbed or was stabbing himself.
Officers then proceeded to a room where they made contact with Vazquez Villareal standing in the hallway outside of the room with his hands covered in blood, the DuPage state’s attorney’s office said in a news release. Officers took Vazquez Villareal into custody.
Upon entering the room, officers found an unresponsive man lying on an inflatable bed with multiple stab wounds to the upper chest/torso area, the release stated. He was immediately taken to a hospital.
Vazquez Villareal is accused of harassing the man as he slept. Authorities allege that when another individual briefly left the room to take a phone call, Vazquez Villareal stabbed the man multiple times with a knife.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 20.
