Seigle Foundation grants $30,000 to Elgin PADS to support critical homeless services
The Seigle Foundation has awarded a $30,000 grant to PADS of Elgin (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) to support general operating expenses for the organization’s year-round, housing-focused shelter and outreach services.
The grant will help PADS of Elgin sustain its core operations, including shelter services, housing navigation, case management, and access to basic needs for individuals and families experiencing homelessness across Northern Kane County.
“At a time when many communities are navigating uncertainty in public funding, local partners remain essential. This grant reflects the Seigle Foundation’s commitment to supporting organizations that help residents access safe shelter and pathways to housing,” shared the Seigle Foundation.
During the 2024-25 fiscal year, PADS of Elgin made a significant impact in the community, providing 12,397 nights of shelter and serving 37,190 meals to guests. The organization sheltered 137 individuals, including 21 children, and successfully housed 38 people in stable living situations.
In addition, PADS extended its reach through its open-access outreach program, serving 3,205 meals to individuals in need.
The majority of guests served by PADS of Elgin come from Elgin Township (69%), followed by Dundee Township (14%), with additional guests from Hanover Township, Rutland Township, and surrounding areas.
“PADS of Elgin is grateful to be among the organizations receiving the support of the Seigle Foundation in the coming year,” said PADS Executive Director Katie Shaw Thompson. “Their impact extends beyond the funds they provide to include the thoughtful strategic partnership they offer and the connections they help foster throughout our community. The Dundee and Elgin area is stronger because of their leadership among us.”
General operating support allows PADS of Elgin to maintain the infrastructure that makes its mission possible, including professional staffing, facilities, and partnerships that ensure individuals and families can access safety, dignity, and pathways to stable housing.
