Lake Zurich ‘Shop with a Cop’
On Dec. 10, the Lake Zurich Police Department held its 10th annual ‘Shop with a Cop’ event. Children from the Lake Zurich area were treated to a pizza party at the Lake Zurich police station before riding in a police squad car to the Lake Zurich Walmart store.
Thanks to local donors, police officers from Lake Zurich, Kildeer and Hawthorn Woods helped each child select items for a shopping spree. Volunteers then assisted the participants with wrapping their gifts, playing games and enjoying desserts at the police station. The event was a success thanks to Walmart, JJ Twigs Pizza of Lake Zurich, Lake Zurich Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 190, Lake Zurich Police Explorer Post 2, Lake Zurich High School National Honor Society, Ela Township Health & Wellness Department and Albarran & Mennie P.C.
The Lake Zurich Police Department’s “Shop with a Cop” program has now provided over 200 area children with assistance during the past 10 years.
“It is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community and help so many children,” Officer Adam Young said. “Community is about supporting each other.”
The police department works with the Ela Township Health & Wellness Department to identify families who can use the assistance of the program.
