Why not cut back?
In the past month or so, there have been numerous postings in the newspaper regarding “Notice of proposed property tax increase.”
It is shamed that some of these taxing bodies have requested such high increases (as an example; City of Batavia, 25.79%, Pingree Grove 13.05%, Village of Hampshire 15%). In addition, school districts range from 4% to as high as 44% (District 118, Wauconda). Many library taxing agencies are exceptionally high. These types of increases need to be reined in. Senior citizens (me included) are on fixed incomes, and these yearly increases continue to eat into our savings.
I don’t mind paying my share of taxes for services I receive but none of my children or any family members attended schools in Illinois. Why am I paying for other people’s children? Taxing bodies should exclude seniors or apply a lower rate.
Illinois is one of the highest-taxing states, and it seems every taxing body jumps on the bandwagon to raise taxes year after year. Some may say, “well, move out of state.” Easier said than done for seniors.
I hope these taxing bodies give some thought to cutting back.
