Middle ground needed
According to news reports, ICE agents’ enforcement efforts have been too aggressive. That may be true; however, let’s realize that ICE agents do have a very difficult job. Trying to sort out the bad ones from the good ones is not always easy, and I’m sure the majority of people want to see those who have committed violent felonies arrested and deported. This is similar to what the Israelis’ encountered when many of Hamas leaders hid among the general population in Gaza. So, what to do?
First, it’s obvious that ICE agents need more training in handling protesters; second, less interference and especially violent action by citizens must stop; thirdly, the news media needs to provide more balanced reporting. We keep hearing the phrase “no one is above the law; yet when it comes to illegal immigration, to many that doesn’t apply. There has to be a middle ground-we just need to find it.
