Kane County offering free training on firearm restraining orders

The Kane County Health Department is hosting a series of free virtual trainings to educate residents about firearm restraining orders (FROs), a legal tool that can temporarily prevent someone from accessing firearms when they may be at risk of harming themselves or others.

Participants will learn about how FROs work, how to recognize warning signs of self-harm or risk to others and safe firearm storage practices. The first of seven trainings will be held Dec. 19.

For a list of dates, including two conducted in Spanish, visit kanehealth.com/Pages/FRO.aspx.

The trainings are offered in partnership with the Family Service Association of Greater Elgin.
