Des Plaines man loses $1,500 in sale gone wrong

A Des Plaines man sent a stranger $1,500 for vehicle parts but didn’t get everything he ordered, police said Thursday.

The 46-year-old victim met the purported seller on Facebook Marketplace in September and then sent the cash via a mobile payment service, police said in a news release.

Only one of the sought-after items arrived, however, and the seller refuses to refund the cash, police said. The theft was reported to police Wednesday.

No other details were available.
