Illinois Brass Band presents ‘Holiday Classics’

What better way to enjoy the music of the holiday season than with the majestic sound of brass. Join music director Stephen Squires and the Illinois Brass Band for an evening filled with of the music and sounds of the season.

With the holiday season quickly approaching it is time to order your tickets to the popular “Holiday Classics.” These upbeat performances, suitable for young and old alike, will be filled with Christmas fanfares, popular Christmas favorites, and sacred carols. It will feature vocalist Amy Bearden.

The performance will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, 307 Cedar Ave. in St. Charles.

Tickets may be purchased in advance at illinoisbrassband.org by visiting the performance tab or at the door immediately prior to the performance. Tickets are $15, $5 for children age 18 or under, and $35 for families which includes two adults and up to four children.

The program will include “Symphonic Highlights from Frozen,” “The Little Drummer Boy,” the Andrew Wainwright arrangement of John Rutter’s “Dormi Jesu,” as well as many other holiday favorites.

The Illinois Brass Band is premiering a new transcription of George Fredrick Handel’s “For Unto Us a Child is Born” and the Andrew Wainwright arrangement of “In The Bleak Midwinter.” The concert will close with “The Glory of Christmas” a traditional sing-along as arranged by William Gordon.

The 30-member British style Illinois Brass Band is in its 34th year of performing and is supported in part by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
