We must learn to live within our means
Well, the Democrats are at the ATM (the taxpayers) again and are raising the tolls 45 cents per toll on top of existing tolls and tying future toll increases to inflation. This is being done to “save” the public transportation system, but oddly enough, none of the tollway extra money will not go to the transportation crisis.
Maybe the system should have been thoroughly examined for the financial issues that got us here like very inept management, money poorly spent, buses than run empty most of the time.
Then there is the underfunded CTA pension crisis, which comprises a large portion of the shortfall. Why should the suburbs have to pay for the CTA issues like underfunded pensions, for something we do not use
These increases will be a pass-through for businesses and thus be made up through higher prices, which fuels inflation and will guarantee higher annual increases to the tolls.
Remember, we have the second highest real estate taxes in the country along with some of the highest gas taxes in the country.
It just appears to me and others I talk to that their “legislative sessions” must be nonstop conversations of how they can extract more money from the hard working citizens so they can insure their votes and hold on to power. This legislative body must also stop bending on one knee to unions who have a lot to do with the reasons for the shortfall.
All in all, we all work very hard for our existence and at some point when they have all our money, it will be over. Don’t complain if you keep voting for the very people/party that are legally robbing us. We must learn to live within our means without changing the means to fit poor fiscal management.
