Home near Lake Villa left uninhabitable after Tuesday morning fire
A home in unincorporated Lake County near Lake Villa was left uninhabitable by a fire Tuesday morning.
Firefighters were called to the two-story, single-family home on the 37000 block of Fernview Lane around 9:30 a.m. after the lone resident saw smoke billowing past a first-floor window.
No injuries were reported.
It took firefighters roughly 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control; they were on scene for about one hour and 45 minutes in all.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but Gurnee Fire Department officials believe it began outside the home and climbed up the exterior and into the attic of the home, where it caused significant damage.
Residents were able to find alternate housing, fire officials said.
