Here are the nominees for Daily Herald October Athlete of the Month

From Cook County: Luke Tepas, Barrington football

The quarterback led the Broncos to an 8-1 season and a Mid-Suburban League West Division title. In a win over Fremd he threw for 204 yards and 4 touchdowns in a win. Against Hoffman Estates he threw for 177 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for a touchdown. Against Schaumburg he threw for 217 yards and 4 TDs, and he added 165 yards and 2 TDs against Conant. Barrington won all four games. He led Barrington to a 72-13 Halloween playoff victory over Elgin.

From DuPage County: Donato Gatses, Glenbard North football

The Panthers running back helped the Panthers reach the playoffs with a month in which Glenbard North won three of four games. Gatses ran for 254 yards and 5 touchdowns in a win over Wheaton North. He had 205 yards rushing and a touchdown in a win against Geneva. Gatses ran for 296 yards and 4 TDs in a win over Lake Park. Gatses had 128 yards rushing in a loss to St. Charles North. He ended the month by going over 100 yards and scoring 2 TDs in a first-round playoff victory against Yorkville.

From Kane County/McHenry County: Logan Abrams, Cary-Grove football

The Trojans fullback ran for 149 yards and 2 touchdowns in a win against Jacobs. In a win over Hampshire he added 215 yards and 3 touchdowns. Against Crystal Lake South, Abrams carried 11 times for 87 yards and 5 TDs in another victory. Completing a 4-0 month, Abrams ran for 108 yards in a triumph over Dundee-Crown. He also was a force on defense.

From Lake County: Trae Taylor, Carmel football

The quarterback and Nebraska recruit completed 21 of 41 passes for 329 yards and 2 touchdowns in a win against Fenwick, also running for 51 yards and a TD. In a win against Loyola Taylor was 30-of-36 passing for 384 yards and 4 touchdowns, with 26 yards and a TD rushing. Defeating DePaul College Prep, Taylor ran for 52 yards and passed for 431 more, completing 24 of 30 passes, four of them for touchdowns. In a 55-54 loss to Montini, Taylor was 25-of-37 passing for 437 yards. He scored 8 touchdowns, 5 passing and 3 rushing.
