Coroner: Elk Grove Village man dies after train vs. car collision in Hainesville
An Elk Grove Village man has died after a crash involving a vehicle and a train in Hainesville, the Lake County Coroner’s office said.
Metra police and firefighters were dispatched just after noon Thursday to the crash near the intersection of Belvidere Road and Centre Drive.
Emergency personnel found a single vehicle that sustained significant damage in the crash. One occupant had to be freed from the vehicle and was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, with life-threatening injuries. He was later pronounced dead in the emergency room.
The coroner’s office conducted an autopsy on Friday. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that the 51-year-old man died of blunt force injuries as a result of the crash.
A second person also was taken from the scene, according to the Round Lake Fire Protection District.
Metra police are investigating.
