A Lake in the Hills man who fired a gun seven times at a car in a 2020 road rage incident in Elgin has been convicted of murder.
A Kane County jury Thursday found Dru Jarvis guilty of first-degree murder, attempted murder and armed violence for killing 41-year-old Francisco Trujillo-Uscanga of Elgin and wounding Ivan Jimenez-Gamez.
Prosecutor Mark Stajdohar told the jury, on the first day of the trial, that it happened because Jimenez-Gamez had honked at the car Jarvis was riding in because it had tried to enter Jimenez-Gamez’s lane.
Jimenez-Gamez and Trujillo-Uscanga, 41, were traveling through Elgin on their way home from their jobs at a Huntley restaurant in August 2020.
Jimenez-Gamez was driving a blue Mini Cooper southbound on State Street (Route 31) near Kimball Street when the shooting happened.
Jarvis was a passenger in a white vehicle. After the honking, he shot a handgun out the window seven times, according to Stajdohar. Trujillo-Uscanga was struck in his torso. Jimenez-Gamez sustained injuries to his legs.
Police traced the ownership of the white vehicle to Jarvis. They searched his cellphone records and determined it had been in the area at the time of the shooting. They also determined someone had used it to search “two men shot in Elgin” on the internet.
Jarvis, 26, of the 1300 block of Cunat Court in Lake in the Hills, has a Dec. 3 court date for posttrial motions and sentencing.
