Girls tennis: Wheaton Academy outlasts Timothy Christian for conference championship

Wheaton Academy won the Chicagoland Christian Conference title hosted by Timothy Christian in Elmhurst with 33 points. The host Trojans were second with 28 points.

The Warriors placed first at No. 1 singles with Lizzie Schmidt, and Leah Hilde placed first in No. 2 singles.

Abbie Covone-Maggie Clousing placed first at No. 3 doubles.

A runner-up finish for the conference champs came from Milly Rienow-Elizabeth Van Hues at No. 2 doubles.

The runner-up Trojans got a first-place effort from Payton and Brooklyn Bunn at No. 2 doubles. Lizzie Auriemma was second at No. 1 singles. Allison Tandy and Laura LaBardi were second at No. 1 doubles, and Eli Vandeberg and Annika Leinkuil were second at No. 3 doubles.

DuKane:

With 77 points Wheaton Warrenville South won its second straight DuKane Conference championship. Hosted by Lake Park, Wheaton North was second with 57 points, followed by St. Charles East (55), Batavia (39), St. Charles North (29), Glenbard North (27), Geneva (21) and Lake Park (17). The DuKane Conference champs swept the No. 4 doubles events. Reese and Riley Lepsi won at No. 1, Kelsey Clousing-Priya Rozanski captured the top prize at No. 2 doubles, and Mae Haas-Megan Masters placed first at third doubles.

The fourth doubles team of Sarah Alman-Grace Rodakowski completed the doubles sweep by winning the DKC title. Anna Ittersagen was second at first singles and Ashley Alman was runner-up at third singles.

Kat Stevens (No. 2 singles) and Mia Ochwat (No. 3 singles) were champions for second-place Wheaton North.

Runner-up efforts in doubles for the Falcons came from Sonja Oleniczak-Lauren Park (No. 2), Anjali Cowart-Izzy Rivers (No. 3) and Emma Jones-Aubrey Tilsk (No. 4). Kelsey Jacob claimed the top singles title for St. Charles East, which finished third with 55 points. Zoe Hermann placed second at No. 2 singles. The St. Charles East top doubles team of Greta Mazurova-Harper Charlson was second.

DuPage Valley:

Neuqua Valley won the DVC meet held at Metea Valley with 14.5 points, followed by Naperville Central (13.5) and Naperville North (11).

The Wildcats got championships from the first doubles team of Sophia Chiou-Kylie Tran and the third doubles team of Pragathi Palavesan-Kaylee Shen.

Jennifer Tang was second at No. 1 singles for the champs. The fourth doubles duo of Debanshi Day-Akshayaa Karthik was also second. Lydia Parranto of Waubonsie Valley won the No. 1 singles title.

Runner-up Naperville Central got first-place efforts from Ravi Wijeshinghe at No. 3 singles and the fourth doubles team of Nithela Semthianaud-Ingrid Anderson. Rina Xiu was second at No. 2 singles, while Chaeli Ha-Amy Yang were runner-up at No. 2 doubles.

Naperville North's Mihika Gokhale rook top honors at second singles. Nelva Bandyopachayay was second at third singles. In doubles, Hanna Sams and Alaina Bhata were second.

Metea Valley's Tvisha Shah-Smitha Sathya won the championship at No. 2 doubles. A second-place effort came from Leah Liu-Lily Jang at No. 1 doubles.

East Suburban Catholic:

Benet claimed the team title with 63 points. Marist was second with 54 points. The meet was hosted by Carmel Catholic in Mundelein.

The Redwings garnered four first-place efforts and a runner-up placement.

Lily Lopatka won the title at No. 2 singles while Benet swept the No. 3 doubles competition.

Championships came from Meaghan McCarthy-Hannah Bobofchak (No. 1 doubles), Caroline Gibbs-Clare DiSanto (No. 2 doubles) and Anna Jones-Riyya Jains (No. 3 doubles).

Emma Mahlik was second at No. 1 singles.

Fox Valley:

Huntley edged Crystal Lake Central for the FVC title hosted by Crystal Lake Central.

The Red Raiders scored 48 points compared to 47 for the host Tigers. Cary-Grove was third with 42 points.

Gia Patel placed first at No. 2 singles for the conference champs. The Raiders placed first at No. 2 doubles with Ainura and Guinura Baidylaeva and the second doubles team of Julie Klockner-Guilanna Farraj also took home the top prize.

Ella Doughty was third at No. 1 singles. For third doubles, Cary-Grove’s Payton White-Presley Brainerd placed first. Ella Stawarz (No. 2 singles) and Kaitlin Lummis (No. 3 singles) were second. Hampshire was fifth with 39 points. The Whip-Purs got a first-place effort from Adsiyah Nurmohamed Anabelle Ionescu at No. 4 doubles. Riley Stumm was third at No. 1 singles for Crystal Lake South, which finished sixth with 34 points.

Girls Catholic Athletic Conference:

St. Francis was fifth with 19 points in a meet hosted by Loyola Academy. The Spartans’ Elle Stephen was the champion at No. 2 singles.

Upstate Eight East:

Riverside-Brookfield claimed the UEC title with 52.5 points. Hosted by Glenbard South and Glenbard East, the Raiders placed third with 34 points.

The top finisher came from third doubles team of Lauren Hammer-Maggie McIntyre, who were second. Third-place efforts came from Riley DePorter (third singles), Gigi Mohorovic-Tessa Robbins (No. 2 doubles), Placing fourth was Samantha Sadorf (No. 2 singles) and Sophie Sweeney-Layla Bailey (No. 4 doubles).

Glenbard East was fourth with 22 points. Finishing third was Ava Ebner-Grace Sabourin (No. 3 doubles) and Emma Ratajczak-Vicki Wojdyla (No. 4 doubles). Fourth-place efforts came from Maguire Keating-Audrey Tragasz (No. 2 doubles).

West Chicago placed fifth with 19.5 points. Michelle Guerva-Alina Ortiz was second at No. 2 doubles.

Third-place finish came from Julia Koput (No. 1 singles). Placing fourth was Victoria Avila (No. 3 singles). Brianna Dunn and Alexis Garcia were fourth at No. 1 doubles.

Fenton's top finisher was Marcy Gancarz, third at No. 2 singles.

Upstate Eight West:

Claiming first-place efforts in 2-of-3 singles events and all four doubles contests, host West Aurora claimed the UEC West championship with 20 points Friday. It was the second UEC West title for the Blackhawks.

Bartlett was second with 12 points, Elgin had 9 and South Elgin 8.

Sophomore Elena Grmusa claimed top honors at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win over defending UEC champion Abby Wolf of South Elgin. Junior Mia Kerns won No. 2 singles.

The Blackhawks swept the doubles competitions. Conference titles came from Chelsey Barajas-Sydney Wolff at No. 1, Ellie Hartman-Alyssa Falcone at No. 2, Chloe Priuer and Monet Prieur at No. 3, and freshman Lexi Bacarella-Katelyn Cook at No. 4.

In the No. 3 singles title match, Anna Fondeur of Bartlett knocked off Madeline Miller of West Aurora 6-2, 6-3.

Suhani Ghandi of Elgin was second at No. 2 singles.

Bartlett was runner-up in all doubles levels. At No. 1, Sabikah Musabji-Dhanvi Dhandapani were second. Other doubles second-place efforts for the Hawks came from Mariam Ghani-Aarushu Mehta (No. 2), Shriya Patel-Lauren Qualls (No. 3) and Zainab Dar-Aaira Navsarilla (No. 4).

West Suburban Gold:

Downers Grove South raced to it sixth straight Gold title with 47 points. Hinsdale South was second with 35 and Willowbrook third with 32.

The six-time champs won six of seven titles.

The Mustangs swept the singles. Gold champions were Gabby David (No. 1), Lily David (No. 2) and Sara Plys (No. 3). In doubles, titles came from Ganna Caruso-Aurija Ostepenkpo (No. 2), Taylor Bakida-Brianna Doyle (No. 3) and Maggie Alegria-Nia Zemaitis (No. 4).

Caitlyn Chiopek and Sam Stapleton were second at No. 1 doubles.

For the runner-up Hornets, Haley Goins-Tedora Savic won the title at No. 1 doubles. Hinsdale South placed second in all three singles events with Addy Filipiak, Ivan Cabello and Sophia Cortez.

At No. 2 doubles, Miley Zang and Monika Alexsonis were second for the Hornets.

Willowbrook, which finished third, got a second-place effort from Cara Casey and Alicia Martinez at No. 4 doubles.

Leyden which finished fifth, got a third-place finish from Vanessa Strozak-Maggie Vogelsberg at No. 3 doubles.

West Suburban Silver:

Hinsdale Central cruised to the conference title with 44 points. Lyons was second with 33 points. The Red Devils claimed six of seven championships.

Jordan Baker (No. 2) and Arya Gupta (No. 3) won singles championships. CJ Coan of York won the title at No. 1.

Hinsdale Central swept the doubles competitions. Championships came from Lauren Panveno-Sydney Shuster, Asha Sarai-Anika Sarai, Aanika Gandi Naiyami Shah and Natalie Marringa-Dallia Bajaw.
