The Week 7 expanded football Top 20

First and 10

1. Fremd (6-0) Next opponent: at Barrington

Comment: The Vikings continued their perfect season with a 35-13 win over a 5-0 Hoffman Estates team, and now they get 5-1 Barrington in another key MSL West game. QB Johnny O’Brien (70% completion, 18 TDs) and WR Maquan Brewster (33 catches, 8 TDs) are having big seasons.

2. Maine South (5-1) Next opponent: At Glenbrook North

Comment: The Hawks are well on their way to another Central Suburban League South title. RB Niko Kokosioulis is a threat to both run the ball — 580 yards and 7 touchdowns — and catch passes from Jameson Purcell — 22 receptions for 242 yards.

3. Glenbard West (6-0) Next opponent: Hinsdale Central

Comment: After a 63-0 win over Hinsdale South, the Hilltoppers resume West Suburban Silver play against the Red Devils, a 4-2 team coming off a hard-fought 28-18 loss to York.

4. St. Charles North (6-0) Next opponent: at WW South

Comment: Now 6-0 for the first time in program history despite 19 penalties last week against St. Charles East, the North Stars turn their focus to Owen Yorke and the Tigers. Yorke ran for 236 yards last week vs. Wheaton North; North Stars QB JT Padron threw for 339 yards last week.

5. Downers Grove North (5-1) Next opponent: York

Comment: The Trojans recorded their second straight shutout last week, tuning up for this key game against the Dukes by blanking Oak Park-River Forest 21-0. Kevin Jay scored a pair of touchdowns and Caden Chiarelli had the third on a 22-yard run.

6. Montini (6-0) Next opponent: St. Viator

Comment: Montini’s Nico Castaldo summed up last week’s 55-54 win over Carmel perfectly. “This game was insane,” he said after catching 7 passes for 157 yards and stopping Carmel’s 2-point conversion with 27 seconds left. Montini’s Israel Abrams threw for 572 yards.

7. Batavia (4-2) Next opponent: Wheaton North

Comment: If all you did on Friday nights is watch Batavia football, you have been quite entertained this fall. The Bulldogs, who lost their opener to Glenbard West on a game-ending field goal, followed a 43-42 loss to St. Charles North in Week 5 with a 24-21 OT win over rival Geneva last week.

8. Prospect (5-1) Next opponent: Rolling Meadows

Comment: Up to No. 9 in this week’s AP 7A state poll, the Knights continued their offensive onslaught with 70 points against Wheeling last week, giving them 304 in 6 games. Rolling Meadows is right behind with 300 points, both teams 5-1 and led by excellent QBs — the Mustangs’ Joe Brigham and Jackson Cacini at Prospect.

9. Barrington (5-1) Next opponent: Fremd

Comment: The Broncos lost this matchup 56-35 a year ago. They will be out to turn the tables behind their big offensive line opening holes for Lamar Osterhues (682 yards, 11 TDs) and Cameron Massillo (307 yards, 7 TDs). Austin Coles has made numerous highlight plays at wide receiver catching passes from Luke Tepas.

10. Warren (5-1) Next opponent: Stevenson

Comment: It’s been interesting the way the schedule set up this season — tough tests vs. Hersey and Maine South (combined 9-3) the first two weeks, then four opponents a combined 6-18 in weeks 3-6, and now a tough closing kick against Stevenson, Lake Zurich and Libertyville (13-5).
