Authorities recover body believed to be missing boater in Fox Lake

Authorities believe they have recovered the body of a boater who went missing after a mishap on Fox Lake Monday evening near Antioch.

Lake County sheriff’s office spokesman Chris Covelli said two men were in the boat at about 5:30 p.m. when the driver took a turn too fast, and both men were ejected.

One of the men tried to climb back into the boat, which was traveling in circles, but suffered minor injuries doing so and was rescued by others in a passing boat.

The second man went under the water and did not resurface, Covelli said.

The Antioch Fire Department and Illinois Department of Natural Resources coordinated the search effort that began again at about 8 a.m. Tuesday.
