South Elgin, Bartlett, West Aurora, Glenbard East, West Chicago secure victories

Colorado-bound multi-purpose threat Gavin Mueller caught 6 passes for 113 yards and 3 touchdowns while adding a pair of rushing touchdowns to help lift South Elgin (4-2, 3-0) to a 49-0 Upstate Eight West victory over Streamwood Friday night in South Elgin.

Mueller got the Storm on the scoreboard early in the opening quarter when he caught a touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Danny Traver, then added a 9-yard rushing touchdown out of the Wildcat formation on the next possession to make it 14-0.

Rushing touchdowns from Darrion Thurman and Jeremiah Carrera extended the margin to 28-0 at halftime.

Carter McDonald tossed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Mueller, who added a rushing score early in the second half and capped the scoring with a 31-yard pass reception for a TD, as the Storm earned its fourth consecutive win.

Frankie Macaluso (3 tackles, 1 for loss) and Patrick Belk (2 tackles, fumble recovery) helped lead South Elgin’s defense to its first shutout of the season.

Tailback Justin Brown carried the ball 17 times for 70 yards for the Sabres (2-4, 2-2).

Bartlett 41, East Aurora 2:

Tyler Meziere recorded a pair of pick-6s during the Hawks’ 41-2 Upstate Eight West triumph over host East Aurora (2-4, 1-3) Friday night in Aurora.

Meziere began the game with a 5-yard quarterback keeper for a touchdown before Isaac Harris’ 6-yard touchdown run upped the Hawks’ lead to 14-0.

Joseph Caputo’s 2-yard scoring run, and Meziere’s 23-yard TD pass to Nicholas Carlos made it 28-0 before Meziere capped the night in electrifying fashion.

Meziere returned his first interception 51 yards for a touchdown, and he added a 78-yard interception return for a score a few moments later, as the Hawks (2-4, 2-1) kept their postseason hopes alive.

West Aurora 49, Ridgewood 0:

The Blackhawks (4-2, 2-1) scored 14 points in each of the first three quarters during their 49-0 Upstate Eight crossover triumph over Ridgewood Friday night.

Senior quarterback Mason Atkins completed 9 of 14 passes for 63 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while adding a 78-yard touchdown run for the Blackhawks.

West Aurora grabbed a 7-0 lead on Lesroy Tittle’s 12-yard touchdown catch from Atkins, and Tittle added a special teams score moments later with a 50-yard punt return.

Following Atkins’ 78-yard touchdown run, the Blackhawks made it 28-0 at halftime on Bryce Riley’s 53-yard TD run.

Tittle tallied his third touchdown of the night when he caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Atkins in the third quarter for a 35-0 lead, and Riley’s 6-yard touchdown run started the running clock at 42-0.

Kellen Younie paced the defense with 4 tackles, as the Blackhawks recorded their first shutout of the season.

Glenbard East 49, Fenton 0:

Senior quarterback Michael Nee passed for 4 touchdowns, including a pair to Muhammad Musleh, during the Rams’ 49-0 Upstate Eight East victory over Fenton Friday night in Bensenville.

Nee also connected with Malachi Miller on a touchdown pass as the Rams built a 42-0 halftime advantage.

Glenbard East (5-1, 3-0), which earned its fourth straight win, has recorded shutouts in two of the last three contests.

West Chicago 61, Elmwood Park 6:

The Wildcats topped the 60-point mark for the third time in six games during Friday night’s 61-6 Upstate Eight East victory over Elmwood Park in West Chicago.

Liam Zbierski’s long run helped set up the Wildcats’ first score, and he returned to add a rushing touchdown early in the second quarter.

Iann Lemus’ 29-yard rushing touchdown extended the margin to 47-0 at halftime.

West Chicago is 4-2 overall, 2-1 in UEC East play.

Elmwood Park slipped to 0-6, 0-4.

Naperville North 36, Sandburg 35, OT:

Senior tailback William Eloe capped off a memorable performance with the game-winning 2-point conversion run in overtime during Naperville North’s 36-35 Southwest Valley Blue victory over previously unbeaten Sandburg (5-1, 3-1) in Naperville.

Eloe, who scored 3 touchdowns, finished the night with 261 yards rushing on 33 carries, as the Huskies

(3-3, 2-2) finished with 302 yards rushing.

Quarterback Josiah Nothacker (8 of 15, 59 yards) connected with junior Carlson Geist on a 7-yard touchdown pass, while adding a touchdown run for the Huskies, who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Defensively, senior Drew Murphy collected a team-high 8 tackles, while sophomore Jake Brooks and junior Gianni Fonash each had 7 tackles, including 3 for losses.

Neuqua Valley 42, Homewood-Flossmoor 27:

Neuqua Valley (3-3, 2-2) earned its second consecutive Southwest Valley Blue victory and first in program history over Homewood-Flossmoor (3-3, 2-2), 42-27 Friday night in Flossmoor.

After falling behind 7-0 late in the first quarter, the Wildcats quickly regrouped as quarterback Drake Mennecke connected with William Kalish on an 80-yard touchdown pass to tie the score at 7-7.

Following another H-F score, Neuqua struck on another big play, as Mennecke tossed a 51-yard touchdown pass to Ben Stefanski to tie it at 14-14.

Mennecke’s 1-yard sneak gave the Wildcats their first lead at 21-14, only to have the Vikings draw even a minute later.

Neuqua regained the lead for good on its next possession, as Mennecke tossed a 12-yard touchdown pass to Stefanski to make it 28-21 with 2:36 left in the opening half.

Bypassing a late field-goal attempt, the Wildcats found the end zone on the final play of the first half, as Mennecke fired a 5-yard TD pass to Kalish for a 35-21 lead.

Mennecke’s fifth touchdown pass of the game, a 16-yard strike to Joshua Repmann in the fourth quarter, sealed the victory.

Normal West 40, Waubonsie Valley 35:

Trailing Normal West 40-29 in the fourth quarter, Waubonsie Valley pulled within 40-35 on Colin Ford’s late touchdown run – his third of the game, and recovered the ensuing onside kick.

However, quarterback Nolan Alberson’s desperation heave from near midfield fell incomplete on the final play of the game, as the Warriors (0-6) dropped the nonconference decision to Normal West (4-2).

Earlier in the contest, Alberson connected with Gavin Ali Hanlon on a 53-yard touchdown pass, and Abriel Epting added a 4-yard touchdown run.

Hope Academy 28, Wheaton Academy 21:

Wheaton Academy’s late rally fell short inside the 10-yard line during Friday night’s 28-21 Chicagoland Christian loss to Hope Academy (6-0, 4-0) in West Chicago.

Trailing by 7 in the final minute, junior quarterback Colton Miller engineered a frenetic drive that included an 18-yard pass to Logan Oros and a 23-yard completion to Tommy Sommer (5 catches, 106 yards) all the way to the 4-yard line.

From there the Warriors (3-3, 3-1) were unable to find the end zone.

Miller completed 13 of 21 passes for 146 yards, while junior Logan Oros carried the ball 11 times for 67 yards and a touchdown. His 40-yard TD run gave the Warriors a 21-6 lead.

Ethan Brooks caught a 70-yard touchdown pass from Miller in the second quarter.

Defensively, Oros led the Warriors with 10 tackles, while junior Elijah Cherry recorded an interception.

Aurora Christian 26, Christ the King 0:

Asa Johnson ran for a pair of touchdowns and passed for another to lead the Eagles (4-2, 2-2) to a 26-0 Chicagoland Christian victory over Christ the King (1-5, 1-3) Friday night in Aurora.

Johnson’s 4-yard touchdown run gave the Eagles a 7-0 first-quarter lead.

David Carreero’s 27-yard field goal extended the margin to 10-0 before Johnson tossed a 16-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Callaway and added the 2-point conversion run for a 18-0 halftime advantage.

Midway through the third quarter, Johnson added some insurance with a 4-yard touchdown run, as the Eagles ended a 2-game losing streak.

Aurora Central Catholic 41, Pacelli Catholic (Wis.) 6:

The Chargers improved to 5-1, completing a 4-game, 1,000-mile-plus road trip with a 41-6 victory over Pacelli Catholic on Saturday afternoon at the Bank of Sun Prairie Stadium in Sun Prairie, Wis.

Quarterback Grant Bohr had 3 touchdown runs and passed for another, as the Chargers pocketed their second straight victory.

Bohr scored on a 1-yard sneak before adding TD runs of 15 and 61 yards, respectively.

Trey Seifrid added a 56-yard touchdown run for ACC.

Downers Grove North 21, Oak Park-River Forest 0:

Kevin Jay Jr. scored a pair of touchdowns, while Joe Lasota and Chris Katsafanas recovered fumbles to lift Downers Grove North to a 21-0 shutout of Oak Park-River Forest (2-4, 1-3) Friday night in Oak Park.

Jay’s 14-yard TD run in the second quarter gave the Trojans a 7-0 halftime lead.

Jay added a 1-yard sneak for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to make it 14-0, and Caden Chiarelli’s 22-yard touchdown run around the right side with 6:30 remaining capped the scoring, as the Trojans (5-1, 3-1) became playoff eligible for the fourth consecutive season.

Downers Grove South 57, Proviso East 6:

James Sobkowiak connected with Aidan Kanazawa on a 76-yard touchdown pass, while tossing a pair of scoring passes to Nate Thurston during the Mustangs’ 57-6 West Suburban Gold victory over Proviso East (1-5, 1-4) Friday night.

Tailback Daniel Mensah added a pair of touchdown runs, while backup quarterback Vincent Junkas threw a touchdown pass to Jack Bucklar, as the Mustangs (2-4, 2-1) built a 50-6 lead.

Junior defensive back Peyton Dickenscheidt provided the defensive highlight of the game when he returned an interception for a touchdown to close out the scoring.

Willowbrook 48, Morton 6:

The Warriors (3-3, 3-1) earned their second straight win Friday night with a 48-6 West Suburban Gold triumph over Morton.

Quarterback Jahonise Reed tossed 3 touchdown passes, 2 of them to Otis Powell covering 40 and 26 yards, respectively, as the Warriors grabbed a 21-0 lead.

Tailback Anthony Leo tallied the Warriors’ next 3 touchdowns on runs of 18, 8, and 2 yards, to make it 42-0 at halftime.

Addison Trail 46, Leyden 6:

Addison Trail remained unbeaten in West Suburban Gold play with Friday night’s 46-6 victory over Leyden in Addison.

Led by senior quarterback Nico Dill, the Blazers improved to 5-1 overall, 4-0 in the WSC Gold.
