Buckthorn buster volunteer day in Hawthorn Woods

Hawthorn Woods’ sustainability committee is holding a buckthorn busting day to remove the invasive plant species that threatens the health of ecosystems.

The event is from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Woodland Park, 23 Juel Circle. Volunteers should wear long pants (no shorts), long-sleeved shirts or sweatshirts, and hiking boots or gym shoes. If possible, bring protective eyewear and sturdy gloves. Safety vests, gloves, and eyewear for those who need them will be provided.

Volunteers must be 16 or older. Volunteers 12 to 15 years old are welcome but must attend with an adult chaperone 18 years or older.
