Mundelein woman killed in hit-and-run crash

A 36-year-old Mundelein woman was killed Sunday night when struck by a hit-and-run driver as she attempted to walk across a Waukegan road, authorities said Monday.

Authorities said Michelle Heidbrick was crossing Grand Avenue near Jackson Street at about 9:34 p.m. when she was hit. She was taken to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, where she was pronounced dead in the emergency room, officials said.

Heidbrick died as a result of blunt force injuries suffered in the crash, the Lake County coroner’s office reported.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene prior to the arrival of Waukegan police, according to the coroner’s office.

The crash remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department Major Crash Unit.
