LCNS celebrates 80th Anniversary
Libertyville Cooperative Nursery School has a rich history in the community. On Friday, Aug. 29, current and previous staff members, preschool families and community members gathered together for a special celebration/dedication ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the school's 80th Anniversary.
In 1945, several women decided to regularly gather their children together to help them learn and grow through play. 80 years later, LCNS is a state-licensed, private, not-for-profit preschool offering a play-based opportunity for young children to obtain a solid, educational foundation and love of learning.
Through years of fundraising and generous donations, the preschool was able to install a new Kompan playground to celebrate the exciting milestone of serving families for so many years.
Attending the ceremony were Director of LCNS Adrienne Johnson; acting Board President Christina Brush; and Scott Adams, village trustee and president of GLMV.
Not only is Adams a dedicated public servant, but he also happens to be part of the first LCNS family of four generations. His mother was one of the founding members of the preschool. He and his siblings attended LCNS, as well as his children and grandchildren. His daughter, Arian Colton, served as the president of the board and his daughter-in-law, Brooke Adams, has taught at LCNS for over 10 years.
Adrienne Johnson, the director, also attended the preschool as a child.
Libertyville Cooperative Nursery School has been a staple in the Libertyville community for many years. Proudly displayed on the play structure is a special plaque stating the playground is dedicated in loving memory of Sandra Bean. Bean devoted over 40 years to teaching young children at LCNS, before passing away in 2024. It only seemed fit to dedicate the new structure to her, as many future generations will continue to grow, climb and play.
