Larkin, Addison Trail, Marmion, Glenbard South, Wheaton Academy among Friday’s football winners
Trailing 34-33 after East Aurora’s Jovanni Perez booted a 29-yard field goal with 28.6 seconds remaining, Larkin answered as quarterback Aden Mora’s 48-yard touchdown pass to junior Antonio Ventura with 11.4 seconds left helped the Royals (1-3, 1-1) stun the Tomcats, 39-34, Friday night at Memorial Stadium.
A 40-yard kick return by Julius Yandell, Jr., moved the ball into Tomcats territory prior to Mora’s third touchdown pass of the night.
Alexis Ramirez sealed the deal for the Royals with his sack of Tomcats quarterback Joseph Miller on the game’s final play.
Mora, who added a 40-yard touchdown run, connected with Yandell, Jr. on a 20-yard TD pass midway through the first quarter to give the Royals a 6-0 lead.
The Tomcats came right back, as Tyrone Evans returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a TD to put East Aurora up, 7-6.
Down 14-12, the Royals used some trickery for the go-ahead score, as Elijah Walker took a handoff from Mora, then handed the ball to Devin Krueger, who took off for a 76-yard TD run.
Following Mora’s 42-yard TD pass to Walker late in the second quarter that gave Larkin a 25-21 halftime advantage, Krueger returned the second-half kickoff 71 yards for a TD and 33-21 lead.
Addison Trail 21, Hinsdale South 7: Senior tailback Gio Ortiz scored 3 touchdowns to help lift Addison Trail (3-1, 2-0) to a 21-7 West Suburban Gold victory over Hinsdale South Friday night in Darien.
Quarterback Nico Dill’s 36-yard gain on a 4th-and-7 play helped set up Ortiz’ 4-yard TD run to give the Blazers a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter.
The Hornets (1-3, 1-1) tied the game on the first play of the second quarter when Isaish Burton scored on a 15-yard touchdown run.
Midway through the third quarter, the Blazers took a 13-7 lead on a 16-yard TD run by Ortiz.
Moments later, Blazers defensive end Nick Paraschiv knocked the ball loose from Hinsdale QB Ben Miller and recovered the fumble to thwart a Hornets drive.
Ortiz followed with a 3-yard TD run with 11:20 remaining to seal the victory.
Marmion 48, DeLaSalle 14: Sophomore quarterback Roy Magana, Jr. connected with junior receiver Colin McEniry for touchdown passes of 28 and 29 yards, respectively, while also tossing a 48-yard, first-half scoring pass to Aidan Miller during Marmion’s 48-14 CCL/ESCC Red victory over DeLaSalle (0-4, 0-1) in Aurora.
The Cadets received help from their special teams, as Adam Vogt’s blocked punt inside the red one set up Henry Miller’s 2-yard touchdown run to make it 13-0 midway through the first quarter.
Will Wilde capped the opening half with a 50-yard touchdown run for Marmion, which plays host to unbeaten Montini Friday night.
Glenbard South 56, Fenton 14: Sophomore tailback Elijah Donahue scored 5 touchdowns during Glenbard South’s 56-14 Upstate Eight East victory over Fenton Friday night in Glen Ellyn.
Donahue tallied the first 3 touchdowns for the Raiders (3-1, 2-0) on runs of 5, 35, and 37 yards, respectively, while later adding TD runs of 66 and 42 yards.
Troy Oleksak caught a pair of touchdown passes — the first on a 16-yard toss from junior quarterback Tommy Bauman, and the latter on a short strike from sophomore QB Mason Fort.
Angel Duran had an 80-yard touchdown run for the Bison (2-2, 1-1).
Wheaton Academy 42, Marian Central Catholic 28: Senior running back Tyler Jones ran for 183 yards on 12 carries and scored 4 touchdowns to lead Wheaton Academy (2-2, 2-0) past Marian Central Catholic, 42-28, in Chicagoland Christian action Friday night in West Chicago.
Junior quarterback Colton Miller finished 11 of 17 for 193 yards and a touchdown, while junior Logan Oros caught 4 passes for 126 yards and a touchdown, while adding a rushing score for the Warriors, who won their second straight.
Junior Elijah Cherry paced the defense with 11 tackles.
Homewood-Flossmoor 24, Naperville North 10: The Vikings (3-1, 2-0) scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to hold off Naperville North, 24-10, in Southwest Valley Blue action Friday night in Homewood.
Leo Taylor accounted for the Huskies’ first-half points with a 38-yard field goal before the visitors tied the game at 10-10 on quarterback Josiah Nothacker’s touchdown pass to Jack Zitko (2 catches, 27 yards) in the third quarter.
Nothacker finished 11 of 24 for 104 yards with a TD and an interception.
William Eloe ran for a team-high 89 yards on 20 carries, while Finn Bretag had 3 receptions for 52 yards.
Defensively, senior end Gabriel Hill recorded 5 tackles, including 3 for losses, a pass deflection, and a fumble recovery.
Sandburg 24, Metea Valley 7: The Mustangs (2-2, 0-2) stayed within striking distance until a late touchdown sealed the Southwest Valley Blue win for Sandburg (4-0, 2-0) Friday night in Aurora.
Ahead 7-0, the Eagles capitalized on a turnover, as Malachi Perkins scooped up a fumble and returned it 15 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-0.
Metea Valley averted the shutout on Marquis Brown’s 13-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter.
West Chicago 66, Ridgewood 20: Quarterback Carter Naranjo scored on a 48-yard touchdown run and added a 10-yard jump pass to Liam Zbierski for a score during West Chicago’s 66-20 Upstate Eight East victory over Ridgewood Friday night.
Roman Zolota added an interception for the Wildcats (3-1, 1-1), who topped the 60-point mark for the second time in 4 games.
West Chicago finished with 317 rushing yards.
Andrew 42, Waubonsie Valley 40: Trailing Andrew 42-20, the Warriors (0-4, 0-2) scored 20 unanswered points, pulling within 42-40 on Colin Ford’s touchdown run with 1:32 remaining.
However, the subsequent onside kick wound up out of bounds, and Thunderbolts quarterback Camden Maniatis ran for a first down to thwart the Warriors’ comeback bid in their 2-point Southwest Valley Red loss Friday night.
Ishmaiah Elliott had 3 touchdown runs, while teammate Bradyn Hostetler added a pair of TDs for Waubonsie.
Bartlett 28, Streamwood 7: Four different players scored touchdowns as Bartlett (1-3, 1-0) picked up its first win, beating Upstate Eight West rival Streamwood, 28-7, Friday night in Bartlett.
Jack Nicoll scored on a 6-yard run to put the Hawks in front before the Sabres (1-3, 1-1) tied it on Justin Brown’s 1-yard TD run.
A pair of long runs by quarterback Tyler Meziere set up Isaac Harris’ 9-yard TD run that gave the Hawks a 14-7 lead with 40 seconds left in the second quarter.
Meziere’s 20-yard flip pass Nicholas Carlos late in the third quarter extended the lead to 21-7 before Joseph Caputo’s 3-yard TD run capped the scoring.
Glenbard East 49, Elmwood Park 0: Senior quarterback Michael Nee threw a pair of early touchdown passes, while Mike Orive returned the second-half kickoff 73 yards for another score during the Rams’ 49-0 Upstate Eight East triumph over host Elmwood Park (0-4, 0-2) Friday night.
The Rams (3-1, 1-0) led 42-0 at halftime.
York 56, Leyden 0: Junior tailback Will Bute ran for 110 yards on 16 carries with 4 touchdowns during the Dukes’ 56-0 WSC crossover victory over Leyden (1-3) Friday night in Franklin Park.
Christopher Winton added a 57-yard TD catch for York (3-1).
Glenbard North 42, St. Charles East 13: Donato Gatses scored on a 17-yard touchdown run to lead the Panthers (3-1, 1-1) to a 42-13 DuKane Conference win over visiting St. Charles East (0-4, 0-2) Friday night.
Hope Academy 61, Aurora Christian 44: The Eagles (3-1, 1-1) tallied 38 second-half points during Friday night’s 61-44 Chicagoland Christian loss to Hope Academy (4-0, 2-0).
St. Francis 17, St. Rita 10: The Spartans improved to 3-1, 1-0 in the CCL/ESCC Green with Friday night’s 17-10 road win against St. Rita (1-3, 0-1).
