Sioux Falls beats Cougars to even Miles Wolff Cup series
Sioux Falls beat the Kane County Cougars 5-4 on Tuesday to even their Miles Wolff Cup finals series at a game apiece.
The Canaries took an early 1-0 lead but the Cougars answered in the bottom of the fourth. Armond Upshaw walked and got to second on a passed ball. Claudio Finol singled him home.
The Canaries took a 4-1 lead in the fourth behind Jordan Barth’s three-run homer. The Cougars rallied in the seventh. Upshaw started the inning with a single, and then stole second. Finol again singled home Upshaw to narrow the gap to 4-2. Zane Spinn’s RBI ground out drew the Cougars closer to 4-3.
The Canaries answered with an insurance run. In the bottom of the ninth, Nick Dalesandro reached on a fielder’s choice and stole second. Spinn singled home Dalesandro to pull the Cougars within 5-4. However, reliever Charlie Hasty ended the game with a pop out from Trendon Craig.
The Cougars play Game 3 of the Miles Wolff Cup finals at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Sioux Falls. Game 4 and Game 5, if necessary, will be played in Sioux Falls on Friday and Saturday.
