Trio de Chats Noirs offers an afternoon of chamber music at Moonlight Theatre

Prepare for an enchanting afternoon of chamber music as Trio de Chats Noirs takes the stage on Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Moonlight Theatre in St. Charles.

This dynamic ensemble — featuring Rachel Velvikis (horn), Mark Fry (bass trombone/euphonium), and pianist Liang-yu Wang — presents a vibrant program blending classical elegance, jazz-infused charm, and cinematic flair.

The trio’s performance will feature a delightful array of works, including the graceful Waltz from Jazz Suite No. 2 by Dmitri Shostakovich, the expressive Horn Songs by Johannes Brahms (arr. Reynolds), and Alec Wilder’s Suite No. 1 for Horn, Bass Trombone, and Piano, rich with lyrical beauty and jazz influences.

The program also includes the whimsical “Cat Duet” by Gioachino Rossini, a playful nod to the ensemble’s feline-inspired name, and the evocative Main Title and Love Theme from “Cinema Paradiso” by Ennio Morricone, arranged to highlight the trio’s lush sonorities.

Audiences will enjoy selections from J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations (arr. for horn and bass trombone), Gary Kulesha’s bold Sonata for Horn, Tuba, and Piano, and the timeless charm of George Gershwin’s “Someone to Watch Over Me.”

This performance takes place at 3 p.m. at the Moonlight Theatre, 7 S. Second Ave. in downtown St. Charles. General admission tickets are $25, available at moonlighttheatre.com or call the box office at (630) 549-0072
