Elgin organ tour finale canceled; tour to resume Sept. 28
The Great Elgin Pipe Organ Tour “Finale Concert” planned for Friday, Sept. 12, featuring players from the Elgin Symphony, was canceled due to a severe funding shortfall.
Instead, the Organ Tour, which features performances on the many pipe organs of Elgin and the surrounding area, will resume with a different concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at First Congregational Church, 256 E. Chicago St. in Elgin.
This new concert will feature First Congregational’s historical Berghaus pipe organ, originally installed in 1893 by the Lancashire-Marshall Organ Company, and performances by Vilma Dydas, music director and organist of St. Mary’s Catholic Church; Matt Wahl, music director and organist of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church; and Dr. Jeff Neufeld, music director and organist at First Congregational.
