RailCats edge Cougars
The Gary SouthShore RailCats beat the Kane County Cougars 2-1 on Tuesday at Northwestern Medicine Field.
The RailCats (36-58) struck first against Vin Timpanelli (6-8) in the top of the second inning. Olivier Basabe led off with a double. Joe Souzzi was then hit by a pitch to set up runners at first and second with nobody out. LG Castillo smashed a double to the left-center field wall, clearing the bases and giving the RailCats the early 2-0 lead.
The Cougars (45-49) scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Blake Rutherford led off with a single. After he reached second on, Oscar Santos singled him home to cut the deficit to 2-1.
