Round Lake Police Officers recognized for lifesaving actions

Officer Kraig Kapusinski and Officer Mayra Raygoza were recognized at a recent Round Lake Village Board meeting with lifesaving awards for their actions which resulted in saving the life of an individual in medical crisis.

On July 26 at approximately 6:45 a.m., Round Lake Police officers responded to a priority disturbance call for service near Wilson Road and Route 120. While responding to the disturbance, Sgt. Kapusinski was flagged down near Route 120 and Fairfield Road for an unrelated medical emergency. An Uber driver was suffering a cardiac arrest and the passenger was attempting to make contact with the officer.

Sgt. Kapusinski immediately tended to the individual and removed the individual from the vehicle. Sgt. Kapusinski began CPR and verbalized his actions over the radio. Officer Raygoza heard the transmission and made a crucial decision to relocate from the disturbance to assist Sgt. Kapusinski. Officer Raygoza was assigned a mobile AED at the beginning of her shift. Upon arrival Officer Raygoza removed the AED from her squad and immediately began the application of the pads to the individual. The AED assessed the patient and advised a shock was necessary and subsequently applied. Officers continued to tend to the patient until Round Lake Rescue arrived on scene. The individual was eventually transported to a local hospital, recovered, and was later released.

The officers’ quick thinking and independent application of their training is a testament to their professionalism and dedication to the village.
