Route 53 resurfacing scheduled to begin Tuesday

Milling and resurfacing on Route 53 from south of Kirchoff Road to south of Rand Road in parts of Arlington Heights, Palatine and Rolling Meadows is scheduled to begin Tuesday.

The work is part of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s project to improve the highway.

At least two lanes in each direction will remain open during daytime hours. Overnight lane closures and intermittent ramp closures are to be expected.

Construction is anticipated to continue through mid-November then pause for the winter before resuming in spring 2026. IDOT expects the project to be completed in 2027.

This project includes pavement reconstruction and resurfacing, ramp resurfacing, traffic signal modernization, lighting and drainage improvements, and bridge rehabilitation from Algonquin to Lake-Cook roads.
