Lombard hosts Veterans Day ceremony Nov. 11
On Saturday, Nov. 11, the community is invited to honor our military veterans by attending the 2023 Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Sunken Garden in Lombard Common Park, located near the intersection of Grace and Maple streets.
The ceremony will begin with a warm welcome from Lombard Village President Keith Giagnorio, followed by an invocation from Pastor Michael Parenti of Lombard Church of the Nazarene and the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Robert Corbino of American Legion Post 391.
This year's keynote speaker will be Dennis Jensen, a Lombard resident and Vietnam veteran who served in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1973. He is also an active member of the VFW Lilac Post 5815.
During the ceremony, Avery Corral, a student from Glenbard East High School, will perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "God Bless America."
Glenbard East buglers Santi Gomez and Gabrielle Walton will play the call to assembly and retreat. Additionally, members of the Lombard Junior Women's Club will be handing out American flags in commemoration.
Attendees interested in sitting during the ceremony are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors to Lombard Village Hall, 255 E Wilson Ave.
The event, hosted by the Village of Lombard, is supported by Lilac VFW Post 5815 and American Legion Lombard Post 391.
