Aurora police: 3 gang members arrested on weapons charges
Aurora police said they arrested three gang members - two Aurora adults and a 16-year-old - Tuesday night on charges they illegally possessed firearms.
Wesley A. Harmon, 23, of the 1500 block of Burton Court, and Leotray D. Davis, 23, of the 900 block of Lafayette Street, each face felony charges of possession of a firearm by a streetgang member, possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owner's Identification card, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and misdemeanor resisting arrest, according to Aurora police and Kane County court records.
A juvenile, also from Aurora, faces the same charges along with aggravated assault and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by an adjudicated minor, police said.
According to police, members of the department's Special Operations Group went to the 400 block of Melrose Avenue on the city's east side after learning there might be illegal guns at a gathering. When officers arrived, people began running away, tossing guns in the process, police said. Officers gave chase, and three guns were seized in the arrests.
Both Harmon and Davis face up to seven years in prison if convicted of the most severe charges. Davis is due in court June 2; Harmon is due in court June 3.
