League of Women Voters hosts immigration panel with legal and policy experts
The League of Women Voters of Central Kane County is co-sponsoring “Immigration and Due Process: Panel Discussion,” an informative educational program set for Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Gail Borden Library in Elgin.
The program will feature highly respected legal and policy experts, who will speak on U.S. immigration law, enforcement practices, and their impact on Illinois communities. The panel will include Sara Dady, Immigration Attorney and Principal at Dady Law Group; Fred Tsao, Senior Policy Counsel at the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights; and Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser.
Lynn Elam, chair of the Immigration Committee at League of Women Voters, said “Our national dialogue on immigration is too often reduced to sound bites on podcasts and cable news. We expect this program to help dispel misconceptions and trigger earnest dialogue, which will be critical if we are to address the nation’s immigration challenges in a humane manner, consistent with the Constitutional values upon which our country was founded.”
The Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin is a sponsor of the program and has posted it on the library’s public calendar for registrations. Patti Lackman, co-president of the LWV Central Kane County, shared that the League of Women Voters of Elgin Area and the AAUW Elgin Area Branch are co-sponsoring the event together with the Central Kane County League.
“We are grateful to the library for recognizing the value of this program and to our incredible co-sponsors, our sister LWV of Elgin Area and the AAUW Elgin Area Branch, for their active involvement throughout the planning and preparations,” said Patti Lackman of the League of Women Voters of Central Kane County.
