Aurora neighbors celebrate National Night Out
Celebrating National Night Out, Aurora neighbors came together at 27 locations across the city's 10 wards on Tuesday, Aug. 5.
Fifth Ward Alderman Carl Franco sponsored the family friendly event at Washington Middle School park. Police and fire personnel were on hand to meet the public and show some of their equipment to the community.
Pizza was among refreshments provided. Additionally, a DJ provided music and there were games and face painting for kids. Aurora chef Wendy Franco demonstrated making focaccia bread and dough from scratch.
Franco said, "National Night Out is always a great opportunity to meet our public safety personnel and let them know we appreciate all they do."
Held annually on the first Tuesday in August, the event is designed to enhance the relationship between neighbors, public safety officials and city officials while focusing on strengthening a sense of community.
