Seeking what is both true and good
First, may I say, I pledge allegiance to no political party. For those in leadership positions, I try to see not only what they are doing but how they are doing it.
It is difficult to address all that has happened in this country in the last six months. It hurts to watch not only the chaos here and around the world but also the behavior of “our leaders.” Sadly, it seems to be the norm nowadays to be cruel in words and actions. Bullying and threats are prevalent. Twisting the truth, outright lying, and hypocrisy are all present every single day. Not exactly a good example for our children.
Shortly after Inauguration Day 2025, a guest editorial in the Daily Herald was entitled “JB Pritzker’s ego could have a high cost for Illinois.” To that may I say that DJ Trump’s ego could have a very high cost for the United States of America. If you want accountability from one leader, then how about some accountability from all, including our president.
We hear how much they love our country, but do they know what love is and is not. Perhaps these words from a really Good Book written years ago can shed some light and guide all of us: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil/wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It always protects …” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)
Challenging words to live by. As it looks right now, it seems we have a hard time discerning between truth and lies, good and evil. Hopefully, someday we all will be able to recognize what is true and good.
