Aurora building evacuated after reports of falling bricks

A building on Galena Boulevard in Aurora was evacuated Saturday night after the fire department — responding to calls about crumbling bricks hitting the sidewalk — deemed the structure unsound.

The American Red Cross and victim services were called in to assist evacuated residents of 102 and 104 E. Galena, according to an Aurora Police Department alert and Facebook posts.

The alert said police received several calls saying the masonry and brick facade was crumbling and pieces were falling onto the street and sidewalk below.

Galena between Lincoln and Broadway has been closed until further notice. The public is being asked to avoid the area while the emergency responders assess the building.
