Antioch Traveling Closet to host back-to-school giveaway Aug. 3
The Antioch Traveling Closet will hold a back-to-school giveaway from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at 311 Depot Street, Suite A, Antioch, offering free toiletries, haircuts and school supplies for residents from Antioch, Fox Lake, Grayslake, Ingleside, Lake Villa, Lindenhurst, Millburn, Richmond, Round Lake communities, Spring Grove and Volo.
The Antioch Traveling Closet is a not-for profit organization that benefits local families in need of clothing, toiletries, school and household cleaning supplies. Antioch Traveling Closet is recognized as a 501(c)3.
The ATC began with a recruited handful of volunteers that has quickly grown into a widespread community effort supported through area residents and local businesses.
ATC’s mission is to ensure that all children, adults, and senior citizens have basic items that most of us take for granted. For example, ATC provides individuals, with items as simple as a toothbrush and toothpaste.
The ATC amasses donated items from the community such as new or very slightly used clothing, winter jackets, boots, hats, gloves, shoes, books and toiletries. In addition, they also collect school materials and cleaning supplies for the home. Collected items are then distributed, for free, at ATC’s monthly giveaways.
The Antioch Traveling Closet also provides clothing, toiletries and sometimes food to local families that become suddenly homeless on an as-needed basis. Area schools will contact ATC for the above-mentioned items many times throughout the school year.
The residents of Antioch Traveling Closet’s community include senior citizens, single parents, grandparents raising their grandchildren, veterans and families simply going through hard times. On a first-come, first-served basis, the residents of the community can come and shop for whatever items they need, free, no questions asked. Several local hairstylists also provide free haircuts.

The ATC is strictly a not-for profit and relies on generous residents and businesses for help with in kind and monetary donations.
