Cougars’ rally falls short against Kansas City
The Kane County Cougars scored twice in the bottom of the ninth, but fell short of another comeback win against the Kansas City Monarchs in a 9-7 loss Sunday afternoon at Northwestern Medicine Field.
With the game tied 5-5 in the ninth, the Cougars looked to Jake Gozzo to keep the score level. Gozzo walked Josh Bissonette and Ross Adolph. Micah Pries then stepped in and shot a ball that hit Gozzo in the side and trickled into left field. Bissonette and Adolph both scored on the play, giving Kansas City a 7-5 lead.
Robbie Glendinning crushed his second home run of the game, making the lead 9-5.
In the bottom of the ninth, Trendon Craig picked up his fourth hit of the game. Two batters later, Marcus Chiu launched his 11th home run of the season to cut the deficit to 9-7. Jeff Hakanson notched the final outs to secure the 9-7 victory for the Monarchs.
