Mundelein weighing social media policy for elected officials, public

The Mundelein village board will hold a special committee of the whole meeting Monday night to discuss enacting a social media policy for elected officials and the public.

The proposed policy aims to help officials keep personal social media pages from becoming official Mundelein pages.

The proposal also includes a lengthy set of rules for people visiting the village’s social media pages. For example, social media pages will be one-way communication tools for the village and not public forums. Additionally, comments supporting or opposing political campaigns or referendums won’t be allowed on the village’s social media sites.

If the policy is approved, the rules will be posted on all village social media platforms.

The meeting is set for 6 p.m. at village hall, 300 Plaza Circle.

The board is scheduled to approve the policy at a second meeting to follow at 7 p.m.
