Lake Zurich man charged with possession of child pornography

A Lake Zurich man faces possession of child pornography charges following a joint investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Lake County state’s attorney.

Randall R. Grueb, 59, is charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography of children younger than 13. Grueb remains in Lake County jail pending a detention hearing Friday.

Cybercrime investigators received a tip that someone in Lake County was using an electronic device to download and share child pornography, including images of toddlers.

Investigators linked the device to a residence in the 800 block of Interlaken Drive and obtained a search warrant for the home, which they executed Thursday with help from Enzo, a Lake County sheriff’s electronic detection canine, and Grip, a Lake County state’s attorney electronic detection canine.

Officials recovered electronic devices belonging to Grueb, who lives at that address.

They say their investigation indicated the defendant likely downloaded thousands of child pornography images and videos showing the sexual abuse of children ranging from toddlers to teens.

Prosecutors say they may seek additional charges.
