Gurnee police, fire, public works host open house Aug. 9

The Gurnee public works, police and fire departments will host an open house beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9.

The free, family friendly event offers residents a behind-the-scenes look at the essential services that keep Gurnee running.

It begins at 9 a.m. at the public works facility, and then opens at the fire and police departments at 10 a.m. Attendees can meet first responders and others who serve the community, check out equipment and vehicles, take part in hands-on demonstrations and enjoy fun activities.

Attendees are advised to park at Viking Park, 4374 Old Grand Ave., then walk to Fire Station #1, 4580 Old Grand Ave., where a shuttle will take participants to all locations.
