Ex-police chief Jamie Dunne poised to lead Chicago Executive Airport board
Former Wheeling Police Chief Jamie Dunne soon could be appointed chair of the Chicago Executive Airport’s board.
The Wheeling Village Board will meet Monday to consider his appointment, among other issues. Dunne’s appointment would need to be approved by the Prospect Heights City Council, too.
While the airport is in Wheeling, the facility is jointly owned by Wheeling and Prospect Heights.
The most recent chair, D. Court Harris, had to step down this week after two, 4-year terms because of term limits, officials said.
The chair is paid $400 per board meeting, with a maximum of 12 meetings per year.
Dunne retired as Wheeling’s police chief this summer after nine years on the job. He previously served as Prospect Heights’ police chief, following 30 years with the Buffalo Grove Police Department.
Dunne announced in March that he’d step down, after most of the department’s unionized patrol officers formally declared they’d lost confidence in his leadership. In April, he was placed on paid administrative leave for the remainder of his tenure.
Interim Chief Bill Murphy now leads the department.
Monday’s village board meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. at village hall, 2 Community Blvd. It is open to the public and will be livestreamed on the village’s YouTube channel.
The Prospect Heights City Council is next scheduled to meet July 28.
