Lake Zurich firefighters halt leak at manufacturing plant
Lake Zurich firefighters quickly quelled a nitrogen gas leak Saturday afternoon at a coffee and tea equipment manufacturer in the 600 block of Rose Road.
Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department Lt. Jason Henriksen said a good Samaritan passing by noticed a plume of gas coming from the facility at about 12:15 p.m.
Firefighters had the leak under control less than 15 minutes after responding, officials said.
Investigators later determined a nitrogen distribution system was leaking, Henriksen said.
“There was a medium to large nitrogen tank that was creating a medium-size plume,” he added.
There was no immediate danger to residents or the surrounding area, according to Henriksen, and there were no injuries to firefighters.
Henriksen said the business, FETCO, has been notified and will follow up on Monday. The matter remains under investigation.
