St. James Theatre to present ‘Matilda the Musical’

Experience a magical tale of courage, creativity, and mischief as St. James Theatre presents Roald Dahl’s “Matilda the Musical.”

Performances are at 7 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, July 10-12 and 17-19; and 2 p.m. Sundays, July 13 and 20. Tickets are $15-$20. For tickets and information, visit stjamestheatre.org.

Doors open 30 minutes before showtime. The theater is in the St. James Parish Center, 820 N. Arlington Heights Road.

With a cast of over 80 local performers, the production is directed by Tom Hussey, with musical direction by Tam Conseur and choreography by Mary Hussey. Based on the novel by Roald Dahl, the musical follows Matilda Wormwood, a gifted young girl with a love for books and a sharp mind. Surrounded by neglectful parents and a tyrannical headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, Matilda discovers the power of her intellect — and a bit of magic — to stand up for herself and others.

The musical theater productions at St. James are a longtime community tradition, beginning 56 years ago.
