South Elgin man facing weapons charges after opening fire outside St. Charles bar

A South Elgin man who used to work at a St. Charles bar is facing multiple weapons charges after police say he opened fire outside the bar earlier this week.

Cameron Kerr, 27, is charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, reckless discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, reckless conduct and disorderly conduct.

Police said the shooting happened just before midnight Tuesday outside Alley 64 at 212 W. Main St.

Witnesses told police Kerr was inside the bar and brandished a firearm in front of employees and was asked to leave.

After leaving the bar, shots were fired. Witnesses directed police to Kerr who was taken into custody. Kerr was not in possession of the gun at the time of his arrest, but police were able to locate it nearby.

Kerr was granted pretrial release Thursday. Authorities said there is an active warrant out of McHenry County for another weapons violation.
