Huntley church volunteers for Adopt-A-Highway program
Looking for an additional way to give back to the community and help keep Huntley clean and beautiful, Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church has “adopted” the stretch of Huntley roadway on Jim Dhamer Drive from Sandwald Road to Hennig Road (0.55 miles) and has committed to keeping it free of litter.
Volunteers were ready and eager to clean the assigned area for the first time recently on Saturday, May 17.
“We answered the call of the village of Huntley to participate in its Adopt-A-Highway Program,” said Jim Saletta, coordinator of the project at Shepherd of the Prairie. “It’s a great way to make a meaningful impact, enjoy time outdoors, and show pride in our hometown. We’re proud that a sign recognizing SOTP’s contribution will be placed along our route.”
The village provides volunteers with safety vests, gloves, and garbage bags. After each cleanup, filled bags are left roadside and then collected by members of the village’s public works department.
Saletta looks forward to the twice a year project and invites other volunteers at Shepherd of the Prairie to help in future cleanups. For more information, contact him at jsaletta@sbcglobal.net.
Led by Senior Pastor Mark Boster and Pastor Ryan Mackey, the church at 10805 Main St. has served the Huntley community for over 20 years. For more information, visit the website at www.sotp.org or www.facebook.com/ShepherdofthePrairie/.
