On Congress: Let us entertain you
Hello, we’re Congress and we want to entertain you. Once again, we’ve discovered some more corruption and you know what we want to do. We want to do an investigation. Yes, that’s right, we want to do an investigation. As you know we do this on a regular basis. Check out your television schedule and watch some of the drama develop before your eyes. Let us entertain you.
Granted, I’m being a bit facetious to make a point. We all know that Congress does investigations on a regular basis, but where is the accountability and prosecution of the corruption? That said, we’ve seen extensive corruption in our nation, especially in the last couple of decades. One hears about these investigations and after completion, they just seem to fall away from the public’s view with minimal prosecutions. It seems, in some ways, like a television episode that was just completed while the public waits for a new investigation episode with the same ending of no accountability and prosecution.
A law not enforced is just a good recommendation. Some in the public believe that many corrupt leaders are above the law. Until the public starts to see some accountability and prosecution of many of these corrupt officials for their insidious actions, then this thinking will remain.
It’s time that many of these corrupt politicians and officials be held accountable for their actions. We hear that our nation is returning to law and order. Part of this process should be holding corrupt officials truly accountable as well. Emphatically, it’s time.
